Norsta Ship Supply — the service provider to the marine and offshore sector, has had the great pleasure to work with an Arabic dry bulk owner and operator headed out of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Client’s business scope and history
(…)“The group focuses on three core sectors within transportation and maritime services, from shipping to an impressive collection of classic cars, further to plant machinery. The group is wholly owned by the Shaikh family”(…).
The owners started out as a cotton trader back in 1952. The founder needed to find a way to move cotton safely and securely to buyers around the world and established the company with its first steamboat. He then decided to extend the same service to clients, shipping their cargo worldwide with the same exceptional care and service.
With the third generation, and 65 years of experience in the shipping industry. (…) “Our ambition is to meet global transportation needs through expanding our fleet with the latest eco-friendly, technologically advanced vessels” (…) Keys to success has been “to having the best people available to manage the landside operation and perform on the sea”. The company has 12 Ultramax dry bulk carriers on the water, in addition to three Kamsarmax newbuilding orders with Taizhou Koaun in China, with delivery in 2020 and 2021.
Technical management, which was previously done by third-party managers, is being undertaken in-house by the company’s fleet management department. Commercial management is outsourced to a Danish chartering company.
The fleet carries a variety of dry cargo throughout its own global trading routes per type of commodity. Some of its most important commodity at cargo hold are coal, iron ore, fertilizers, grain clean, sugar, cocoa, rice, corn, wood pellets, alumina, Sulphur, cement, and steel.
Vessel technical information
With its 200 meters length overall and 32m beam/width, the bulk carrier “Tomini Dynasty” is of Panamax class. She was built in 2018 at Cosco shipping heavy industry in Shanghai, China, and has a capacity of 63.657 DWT. She has 5 cargo holds with hydraulic hatches. Each holds with loading capacity from 14 -16.000 CBM. The vessel has four revolving cranes at 30m SWL at a 28m radius, equipped with 12.CBM remote-controlled grabs.
Vessel trade route
The bulk carrier “Tomini Dynasty” is sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, with her home port at Majuro. This year, she has tirelessly been sailing around Europe earlier this spring, further onto Canada in April. From North America, she went on her way to Africa early May, calling the port of Douala, Cameroon, for bulk loading. Then sailing South to Libreville, Gabon for a shortstop, before sailing north across the Gulf of Guinea.
While in good time to her next assignment, she sets up North, along the African West continent, outside Liberia and Sierra Leone. West out of Gambia and Senegal at international waters, she headed towards Cap Verde.
She arrives at Cabo Verde on the 2nd of June, scheduled for Porto Grande, but sits at anchorage on the international borderline a couple of days. She then sets her course towards Norway, with two days stop at the port of Kvinesdal on the 10th of June. Then heading North through Boknafjorden further through the fjord of Sauda where she is berthing for discharge on the 12th of June.

Arriving at the port of Sauda, Norway — Norsta Ship Supply has together with the port’s Ship Agent consolidated consignments to be brought on board the ship. The ship supply is to be distributed throughout several ship stores and has gone through a quality assurance process prior to delivery for compliance with the client’s technical procurement requirements. Once verified that all is OK and delivery has been made, Norsta Ship Supply has made another delivery with great success.
Our impact matters
Norsta ship supply is playing an important role to meet customer requirements and to procure supplies to vessels and seafarers. Our top priority is to supply what is needed onboard, both technical stores and provision stores at the right time.
In these times when the crew might have been on board longer than normal, due to the COVID-19 and challenging crew change. It is crucial with sufficient stocks of all goods that can keep the morale up. Customers want to be safe having sufficient with provisions, consumables, and technical ship stores, in the event of longer intervals between crew change.
Provision orders are a business area we see an increase in received inquiries. We are able to deliver food and beverages into domestic ports and in different regions also abroad. Both to ships and to offshore installations – on a regular basis.
We also handle technical and spare parts requests in a timely fashion, as we know these are often urgent items for operations according to technical integrity as well as complying with rules and regulations. We put efforts into detail compliance work to meet any item, scope, specifications, form, or functions to anyplace it is needed.
From warehouse to ports
We put a lot of effort and planning to deliver goods safely, and effectively around the world. Timing and attention to detail are of the essence. Our logistics has been running without any discrepancies due to COVID-19. With seamless supply service by all transport modes, we come up with smart solutions to customer problems as we source any product. The range of items we supply is based on demand and is diversified with a supply chain that secures consignments to be acquired both domestically and internationally from a vast source of suppliers.
For provision needs, Norsta has established delivery units at the moment to ports throughout Norway, Chile, and Singapore. Elsewhere in the world is per request basis. For technical requirements, Norsta delivers to larger parts of the world per request. If your company has requirements at any port in the world, we can source and deliver on-demand. Norsta also offers fleet agreement for ongoing needs, to improve costs and predictability.
